Report from Mark at Cannon Beach Surf: Friday 24Mar2017
Some Good News…… Indian Beach is finally open……. They are still working on parts of the road today, so take it easy…. but you can get to Indian Beach, not that the surf is really any good today., If you do go up, get a trash bag, as there is plenty of “stuff” on the beach that can be picked up…..
This morning, SSW 10+ft@ 8-13 sec’s with SSE winds 10-12mph, about 45 and cloudy with 80% chance of rain. Water temp at 50, there is a small craft advisory posted. Low tide was at 4:28am, sunrise at 7:10am, and high tide at 10:16am. Later today, SW 10ft@ 10 sec’s with SSW winds 10-20mph+, expected high of about 51 with 80% chance of rain and some possible thunder. Low tide at 5:06pm. Tonight, Sunset at 7:34pm, with SW 8-10ft@ 12 sec’s with SSW winds 10-15mph, low of 41, clouds and 80% chance of rain.

A SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY FOR WIND MEANS THAT WIND SPEEDS OF 21 TO 33 KNOTS ARE EXPECTED. INEXPERIENCED MARINERS... ESPECIALLY THOSE OPERATING SMALLER VESSELS SHOULD AVOID NAVIGATING IN THESE CONDITIONS. A SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY FOR HAZARDOUS SEAS MEANS THAT WAVES ARE EXPECTED TO BE HAZARDOUS TO SMALL CRAFT. MARINERS SHOULD AVOID SHOALING AREAS. LONG PERIOD SWELL CAN SHARPEN INTO LARGE BREAKING WAVES IN SHOALING AREAS. IT IS NOT UNUSUAL FOR WAVES TO BREAK MUCH FARTHER FROM SHOALING AREAS THAN IS NORMALLY EXPERIENCED. REMEMBER... BREAKING WAVES CAN EASILY CAPSIZE EVEN LARGER VESSELS
